Imaemon Kiln's overglaze porcelain conveys the aesthetic sense and dignity of the Edo period to the present day, and its hand-crafted techniques, such as wheel-throwing, line drawing and shading of blue and white porcelain, glazes made from cassia ash, kiln firing with pine wood, and the mixture and techniques of akae (red, yellow, and green overglaze) that have been passed down as a secret recipe from father to son, have earned it high acclaim and led to it being recognized as an organization that preserves Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Japan.
