Masahiro Takehana

His works are mainly white porcelain, and much of it is fired in wood-fired kilns.
Firing in a wood-fired kiln generally carries risks, and if too much ash is applied, the product's quality may be reduced, but by using firewood, he is particular about adding interest and depth of flavor to his work. He doesn't just rely on this firing method, he also incorporates potter's wheel techniques for sculpting, and adds his own unique flair to his work while being particular about the materials and clay he uses. His work combines beauty and interest, and has a different appeal to works that are simply made mechanically.
The appearance is neat and beautiful, but what lies within lies the essence of Takehana Masahiro as an artist with very deep commitment, which has led to many inquiries from fellow pottery experts. He is also skilled in modern-style pottery, and his pottery is widely used in many restaurants, both Japanese and Western.
