This flat vase is reminiscent of pottery from the Yi Dynasty, which is said to have influenced the roots of Karatsu ware and given it a Japanese twist.

Tetsuo Ogawa originally trained in Karatsu and was an apprentice at the Nakazato Taroemon Kiln, and this "Brushed Flat Vase" is suitable as a flower vase and faithfully reproduces the style of the Yi Dynasty. In particular, the flat -footed shape, known as a henko, is distinctive, and this style is rare among Karatsu artists who aim to copy the Yi Dynasty style.

His style is generous, and although this piece appears to be disintegrating, it has a dignified atmosphere and conveys both his refined technique and his generous personality.
