14th Nakazato Taroemon

His grandfather was the Living National Treasure Nakazato Muan, who restored the old Karatsu style of the Momoyama period, and his father was the member of the Japan Art Academy Nakazato Hoan, who showed a new direction to Karatsu with his modern decorations. Since taking on the name in 2002, he has been creating works such as traditional ido tea bowls and jars made using the Nakazato family's traditional hammering technique, as well as scratched works using Chinese techniques that were not available in Karatsu.
The highly sculptural works, as well as the use of color and detailed decoration, go one step further than the reproductions of Chinese Song Dynasty vases, adding the originality of the 14th generation. On the other hand, the traditional Ido tea bowls and other works are characterized by an elegant style reminiscent of the tea bowls made by Komune An.
