Gen'emon Kiln, which is said to have opened in Arita in the mid-Edo period in 1753, is one of the few kilns that still preserves the art of handcrafting. From wheel-throwing to painting, the attitude of completing every process by hand has remained unchanged since the kiln's opening, and the brushwork applied to the thick vessels is full of elegance.
Many of the designs are classic motifs that were popular during the Edo period and are still used today, with patterns such as the "plum blossom crest" and "four sea waves" in particular being beloved throughout the ages. While modern designs are also being released, our shop deliberately selects and stocks old-fashioned patterns that evoke a sense of history.
While adhering to tradition, the company uses wood-fired kilns for firing, capturing the breath of nature and creating a deep expression. These neat and pristine finishes have been highly praised by art museums and enthusiasts overseas, and the company continues to convey the beauty of Japanese ceramics to the world.
