Newsletter (August 15, 2025, Nakazato Tarouemon Kiln)

Hello everyone.

The heavy rains that caused damage across Japan have finally subsided, and the summer heat is back.
Obon comes to an end today, and many people have probably visited their loved ones' graves and spent time with their families.

In Karatsu, the custom of "first Bon visit" still remains.
In addition to the altar, families celebrating the first Bon festival also have
Lanterns and spirit boats are offered.
Some people who go to pray visit dozens of homes of relatives and acquaintances, making it a very demanding event for both those welcoming and those visiting during the hottest time of summer.
Now that there are fewer opportunities to visit other people's homes,
The first Bon festival visit is very rare and may be a custom unique to Karatsu.

Well, in the online store this week,
We would like to introduce some new pieces from Nakazato Tarouemon Pottery Studio.
These are tableware created by a traditional pottery maker to suit modern eating habits and lifestyles.
Please take your time to look around during the remaining time of the Obon holiday.

Well, everyone, I hope you have a great weekend.
