Newsletter (July 25, 2025, Yuki Inoue)
Hello everyone.
How are you doing with this scorching heat every day?
Recently, Manji Inoue, a leading figure in Arita ware and a Living National Treasure, passed away at the age of 96.
He is known as a master of white porcelain, and his work is completely devoid of decoration.
The beauty of the pure white pots and vessels is a testament to the skill of the potter's wheel.
In his later years, he also created works with soft colors using green and yellow-green glazes, but I still believe that the pure beauty of white porcelain is what truly represents Mr. Manji's talent.
Just recently, on NHK's "Dear Nippon: My Grandfather is a Living National Treasure"
He had just appeared on the show with his grandson, Professor Yuki Inoue, so we were simply shocked by the sudden news of his passing.
The teacher was a friendly person and always welcomed us warmly when we visited the pottery studio.
For now, I can only offer my heartfelt condolences.
Well, in the online store this week,
We are introducing several new works by Inoue Yuki.
The NHK program featured pop and modern styles, but I still think,
I am strongly attracted to works that evoke the flow of traditional Arita ware. While inheriting the techniques and spirit of the Inoue Manji Kiln,
Professor Yuki is challenging himself with new forms of expression.
He is a ceramic artist whose future is truly exciting.
There aren't many, but please take your time to look around.
Summer is in full swing, with sea-related events being held all over the country.
Be careful of the heat and enjoy the summer to the fullest.
So, have a great weekend this week too.
