Newsletter (July 18, 2025, Yukiko Tsuchiya)

Hello everyone.
The Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival is over, and the Pacific high pressure system is finally expanding, making it feel like summer is in full swing.
The sounds of the cicadas could be heard all at once.

This week we are introducing new works by female ceramic artist Yukiko Tsuchiya on our online store.
Professor Tsuchiya's encounter with Ichibankan dates back about 25 years.
At the time, she was still unmarried and working under the name "Yukiko Takeuchi." Through the introduction of her teacher, Takashi Nakazato,
It all began with my first solo exhibition at Gallery Ichibankan in Momochihama, Fukuoka City.

After that, she married her current husband, Eiji Tsuchiya, and while living with her husband, who is a chef,
I feel like the teacher's abilities are improving more and more.
The owner originally ran a restaurant called "Robata" in Ginza, Tokyo.
He runs a Japanese restaurant called "Kansai-ji", which is a famous restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine.
Due to his connection with Yukiko-sensei, Tsuchiya has now moved to Karatsu and together with his wife, he holds cooking classes at Yukiko Kiln.

The couple truly embody my catchphrase, "Bringing food and tableware together," and are definitely someone to keep an eye on in the future.
Please take this opportunity to see Yukiko Tsuchiya's new work.

Well, I'm sure many of you have a three-day weekend starting tomorrow.
I'm sure there are many families whose children are on summer vacation.
Have a wonderful weekend and a wonderful start to summer.

Naoki Sakamoto, Owner of Ichibankan
