Newsletter (March 1, 2025: Fascinated by the Yi Dynasty "Tsushima - Takesue Hiomi Exhibition")

Hello everyone.

Today marks the start of March.
The "Tsushima - Takesue Hiomi Exhibition" is being held at GALLERY Ichibankan from today until the 9th (Sunday).

When it comes to Professor Takesue, Ido tea bowls have become synonymous with him, and in the feature on Ido tea bowls in the recently released "Honoo Geijutsu 2025 Spring," his work was featured first, and among contemporary ceramic artists,
I think this is the piece that is closest to the original.

I first met Professor Takesue when I saw him in a feature on the Yi Dynasty in a magazine called Bessatsu Taiyo about 30 years ago.
I instantly fell in love with it, and through an acquaintance I immediately visited the teacher's studio in Kamitsushima.
Since then, I have been to the Fukuoka gallery every year without fail.
He has had solo exhibitions at Gallery Jules in Tokyo, and for the past few years at a gallery in Karatsu.

This time, the main focus will be tea bowls, as well as sake ware, which is also highly rated.
There are many works on display reminiscent of the Joseon Dynasty that seem to have something in common with folk art.
Like Karatsu ware, the more you use it, the more its character improves, but although it may look similar, Yi Dynasty pottery is somewhat different.
Please come and see it at the venue.

Professor Takesue will also be at the venue today and tomorrow.
The stories told by teachers who are knowledgeable about Korea are really interesting.

Well, everyone, have a great weekend.
